Privacy Policy

This policy explains how UK Plug In Solar ("we", "us") collects and uses personal data when you visit ukpluginsolar.co.uk, sign up for our newsletter, or use our savings calculator. We are based in the United Kingdom and we follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

UK Plug In Solar is the data controller for personal data collected through this site. You can reach us at hello@ukpluginsolar.co.uk.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to run the site and our newsletter:

• Newsletter signups. When you subscribe to our mailing list, we collect your email address. This is processed by ConvertKit on our behalf.
• Savings calculator submissions. If you ask the calculator to email you results, we collect your email address along with the inputs you provided — typically your postcode area and an estimate of your energy usage. These are sent to ConvertKit alongside the estimate.
• Website analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This collects anonymised data such as pages viewed, time spent on the site, device and browser type, and approximate location at country or region level. It uses cookies to do so.
• Search Console data. We use Google Search Console to see which search queries bring people to the site. This is aggregated and not personally identifiable.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard server logs containing IP addresses, access times, and pages requested. These are used to deliver the site and protect against abuse.

Why we're allowed to process your data

Under UK GDPR we rely on the following lawful bases:

• Consent — for sending you marketing emails and for the savings calculator emailing your results. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
• Legitimate interests — for running anonymised analytics and keeping server logs to operate the site securely. We have considered your interests and rights and consider this proportionate.

Cookies

We use two kinds of cookie:

• Strictly necessary cookies set by our hosting provider so the site loads reliably.
• Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics to understand site usage in aggregate.

We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or third-party marketing cookies. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on if you want to opt out of analytics specifically.

Sharing and international transfers

We do not sell your personal data to anyone. We share it only with the third-party services we rely on to run the site — at the moment, Google (Analytics, Search Console), ConvertKit (email), and Vercel (hosting). Some of these providers process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or equivalent adequacy mechanisms.

How long we keep it

• Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
• Calculator submissions are kept alongside your subscriber record so we can email you updated estimates if our methodology changes.
• Analytics data is retained according to the default retention setting in Google Analytics.
• Server logs are kept for a short period by our hosting provider for security purposes.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can also withdraw consent for marketing at any time. We've set out a fuller explanation of each right on our GDPR Rights page.

To unsubscribe from emails, use the link at the bottom of any email we send, or email us directly. To exercise any other right, email hello@ukpluginsolar.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
